Saint-Gobain Research Paris in space.

Saint-Gobain Research Paris in space.

On November 17, French astronaut Thomas Pesquet joined the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Soyuz spacecraft for his Proxima mission.

His mission is to carry out more than fifty scientific experiments, including those from the MATISS project. This project aims to test samples of 2cm² of super-hydrophobic glass combining texturing and hydrophobic treatment, developed by Saint-Gobain Research Paris.

The aim of the experiment is mainly to understand the mechanisms of attachment of biofilms in a context of microgravity.

Beyond space, MATISS will find applications on Earth. For example, the qualification of new intelligent surfaces could be used for public transit equipment or for the coating of very sensitive and precise surfaces such as elevator buttons.
